I am an analyst in a strategic planning and control department on corporate side in a bank.
Being an analyst I can say that this is a tough question because of the “exactly” in the question but I will try.
I and my colleagues are working on monitoring the results of the company, on products, on people, on geographic areas and on segments.
We are also working on the budgets, on the internal targets, on the CRM, and other internal projects.
What sort of company do you work for, how many employees does it have etc?
A bank with more than 2000 employees & more than 200 branches.
What part(s) of your job do you really enjoy?
Developing new (and useful) reports and the feedback on those reports.
Optimizing the flows of work inside the department.
What part(s) of your job do you really dislike?
Not having time to do the “enjoying part”, doing things in a rush, without understanding why and what is the purpose of the work.

Software: Access, Excel, VBA, Outlook

Who, within or outside the company, gives you tasks to do etc.?
1. We have yearly known tasks: budgets, targets, etc … so knowing them I can say that it is not a surprise when I begun to work on those projects

Receive: ~ 25 phones / week
Make: ~ 5 – 10 phones / week (except the projects which implies communication by phone)

Receive: 150 mails (useful) + 100 mails automatic moved to some folders to use only if needed.
Make: 50 – 100 mails (except when we are sending files in the network on specific projects)
How many meetings do you attend a week?
2-3 meetings / week
What does excellence mean in your domain?
Understanding what you do, why you do, for whom you are doing it.
Doing what you do easily, happy and understanding a report 2-3 years after it was made.
What does incompetence mean in your domain?
I don’t know.
Describe a tough day.
To have a dead line in 2 days. To be able to do the project in 3 days => over time.
To receive 10 phones calls / 20 emails from different people asking some urgent information that can be send, but take some time. To postpone all of them.
The boss to come with other urgent projects that you have to do. The requested info not to be available and to ask for it / search it in the system … etc.

To have something to do (a project / a report etc. ) that is not urgent – deadline in 1 week or if it is development in 1 month. Working on this project ½ day,
¼ day learning and searching new ways to improve work.
¼ answering e-mails.
Leaving bank on time, in a good spirit.

I don’t have conflicts.

A good day. To be appreciated, increases in salary. Good news.

By respecting the deadlines, by ending the projects.
